Night Zookeeper: Online Learning Program
Our Reading and Writing Program is designed for children aged 6 to 12, and blends literacy with creativity and imagination. In the magical world of the Night Zoo, children bring their own unique characters to life as they join Night Zookeeper Will, Sam the Spying Giraffe, and Riya on an exciting adventure to protect creativity from the evil Lord of Nulth.
Packed with thousands of engaging games, challenges, and lessons, the program helps children build essential skills in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and vocabulary – all while having fun! Night Zookeeper: Book Series
Our six-part Night Zookeeper Adventures book series celebrates imagination, creativity, and self-expression. Written by co-founder Joshua Davidson and featuring characters created by young writers on nightzookeeper.com, this series is aimed at children aged 6-12. The books follow the incredible journey of Will Rivers, a young boy who stumbles into the magical Night Zoo world where animals talk, creativity reigns, and imagination is the key to survival. Alongside trusted friends like Sam the Spying Giraffe and Riya, Will faces thrilling challenges to protect this colorful world from the villainous Lord of Nulth, who seeks to erase creativity forever.
The series is available as physical books or eBooks, and individually or as a complete collection. Each book can be paired with printable reading charts and activity packs (sold separately) to help young readers build comprehension skills in a fun and engaging way. It’s perfect as a standalone adventure or a companion to the Night Zookeeper online learning program.
Night Zookeeper: TV Series
The Night Zookeeper TV series brings the magical world of the Night Zoo to life in an action-packed adventure! This 10-part mini series, originally created for Sky Kids, follows Will Rivers, Sam the Spying Giraffe, Riya, and a host of fantastical animal friends as they battle to protect creativity from the dark forces of the Lord of Nulth. Each episode is approximately 5 minutes long. The show was inspired by submissions from children, making it the first animated children’s series to collaborate with thousands of kids on the creation of each episode.
With colorful animation by BAFTA and Emmy award-winning studio Karrot Animation, the series inspires kids to believe in their own creativity through themes of bravery, friendship, and the importance of imagination. It’s a perfect companion to the Night Zookeeper books and online program, offering even more ways for children to connect with the world they help bring to life!

Josh wrote a story that inspired children to draw pictures and create stories, sparking the idea for Night Zookeeper.
The Beginning Of Our Adventure
Josh and Paul officially launched Night Zookeeper with the Night Zookeeper Drawing Torch iOS app, encouraging kids to create magical creatures through art and storytelling.
A Standout In Innovation
We updated the app to Night Zookeeper Teleporting Torch, earning recognition as one of The Guardian and The Observer’s Top 50 Apps of 2013.
A Leap Into Literacy
Night Zookeeper evolved into a web-based learning platform featuring writing prompts, games, and personalized tutor feedback, quickly becoming popular with teachers.

Bringing the Story to Print
Partnering with Oxford University Press, we published The Giraffes of Whispering Wood and subsequent titles, expanding Night Zookeeper into a six-book series.
