1. Warm-up: Ease back into writing practice by making a word list related to your summer vacation. Include words about activities you did, books you read, shows you watched, or emotions you felt. Once you finish, make another word list related to going back to school!

2. Think back to the most awesome moment you had this summer vacation! What made it so special? Describe it in detail: where were you, who were you with, and what feelings did you have? Dive into the memory and bring it to life!

3. Reflect on the previous school year and what you improved the most. Was it a subject, a sport, or maybe making new friends? Share what you're proud of and how you grew!

4. Imagine you're giving advice to someone about to start the grade you just finished. What was your favorite part? Was there something you were nervous about that ended up being fine? Write down your best tips and tricks to help them out!

5. What are you looking forward to the most going into a new school year? Is it exploring new subjects, or participating in fun activities? As learners, what excites you about this fresh start?

6. Pretend you're the teacher for a day! You can create and teach any subject you want. What would it be? Let your imagination run wild and write out your dream lesson!

7. Journal Prompt: What helps you get back in the swing of things during the first week of school? How does your morning and evening routine change when it is back to school time?

8. Practice introducing yourself to your classmates! Write down five things about yourself that your classmates or teachers might not know.

9. Get ready for a new school year by brainstorming a list of goals. Write down everything you hope to accomplish this year and keep the list handy to remind yourself of your aspirations throughout the year. Dream big!

10. On your first day of school, an unexpected series of events seems determined to make you late. Write a short story describing these events! Include a burnt piece of toast, a giraffe on roller skates, and a HUGE mound of mud. Get imaginative with this creative writing prompt!

11. At the beginning of the year, write a letter for your future self to open at the end of the year. You can write about how you feel going into the school year, what you think you will learn, and even ask your future self questions.

12. Story Starter: I can't believe my first day of middle school has finally arrived! Are other new students as nervous as I am? I wonder, quickly finishing my breakfast. After hugging my mom goodbye, I head off to school. But as I reach the steps of the building, I stop suddenly. I squint, trying to understand what I'm seeing. There's no way this is real...

13. What do you think is the hardest part of being a teacher? What teacher tips would you give them for entering a new school year?

14. Finish the sentence: I enjoy learning new things because...

15. Imagine you find a hidden classroom in your school that nobody else knows about. What does it look like? What do you discover when you explore it?
